Sooraj R. Barjatya
People On Sooraj….
To start with, I would like to say that I am no one to comment on a man as great as Soorajji...
I think there are certain experiences in life, which just cannot be restricted to the confines of words, and working in Vivah was one of them.

It has been a humbling experience, just being in his presence... Every day I have learnt on these sets and every moment spent on the sets of "Vivah" I will cherish all my life.

Thank you Soorajji for considering me worthy enough to play your "Prem" and thank you Rajshri for giving us a great director and an even greater human being! Hope to be your "Prem" always.
- Shahid Kapoor

Working with a director who thinks, talks and walks only cinema! Who gets into the psyche and soul of each and every character on his set... Makes each of them feel equally important and special... Who comes to the set having done not only his, but your homework too! Who also sends you an encouraging sms when you get home, appreciating your work… Well, sharing creative space with Sooraj R.Barjatya has been a tremendous learning experience.

I have tall regards for directors who give women actresses their due, on 70mm. I only hope that I have done justice enough to this priceless opportunity of portraying "Poonam". For me each moment spent through this journey will be cherished all my life! It's been a dream come true working with Rajshri!

I can challenge anyone to take the same cast, shoot Maine Pyra Kiya and Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! and get the same result. Nobody will be able to do it, I bet. The way Sooraj works is mindboggling. He narrates his story giving the minutest of details. He will tell you each and every angle, the complete backdrop, colour combinations, dresses, everything! He will even tell you the number of steps on the staircase, even sing the songs during the narration, complete with background music

Sooraj as a human being is an amazing guy. Sooraj se achcha ladka maine aaj tak nahin dekha (I have yet to see a nicer guy than Sooraj). And this reflects in his films. You can see Sooraj in each of his films' characters.
- Salman Khan
What I like best about Sooraj is his sensitivity. He has a soft personality. I have known him since 1984 when he was the assistant director of my debut-making film, Abodh. Can you imagine, despite coming from the Barjatya family, he would not only sit with the lightmen, but also eat with them! Even when he became one of the film industry's most sought-after directors with the success of Maine Pyar Kiya, he still remained a gentleman.

For instance, when he approached me for Hum Aapke Hain Koun...! he did not say, “We gave you a break in Abodh , so do a film for us”. His attitude was, “We have a very good script. Do you want to do the film?” I like this quality of his.

- Madhuri Dixit

Today, Sooraj Barjatya is being seen as the custodian of our past and our culture. But more importantly, he is also regarded as one of the few who will shape the future of Hindi films.
- M. F. Hussain
He is the one man who gave me a chance to perform. I acquired not only many professional traits as an actress… after working with him I am a changed person.
- Kareena Kapoor
Sooraj is the kind of guy who takes a lot of pain over what he does. He is the real hero of the film. On and off the sets, he is so nice, warm and humble; you learn so much from him. Sooraj looks at things very differently. Sooraj's characters are positive or negative. During Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon, all three of us were very busy when we started this film. But it was never tough to get back into the film despite schedules separated by weeks because he was on cue all the time. You just had to sit with him. He knew each character like the back of his hand.
- Abhishek Bachchan

He's a brilliant director and he knew from day one just what he wanted. In fact, I felt so strongly that in all these years, here's the only such director I've come across after Raj Kapoor.

- Late Rajan Kinagi (Cinematographer)
